Making the most of the Cloud.
Tech has taken over our lives, its influence effects everything that we do. Due to the power of technology our workplaces have become a lot quieter than they once were – remote working has become common practice in organisations around the globe over the last year or so. Remote working and in turn Cloud computing, were always going to become common practice and revolutionise our lives, but it wasn’t anticipated to happen so abruptly. The pandemic forced business owners to make changes – vital business functions that shouldn’t have been changed overnight were rushed through with little to no thought of the future.
The businesses – and there are many – that made the jump to Cloud computing in order to continue trading during through the pandemic, are likely not using the Cloud to its full potential. This is completely understandable, you had to keep the doors open at all costs to keep the money coming in, and the government weren’t helping matters by changing legislation all the time.
Unfortunately, because of the haste of the transition to Cloud computing, many businesses aren’t really on the Cloud and in reality, they are on the edge; they are using the tools at their disposal to the best of their ability and most are oblivious there is anything wrong. Let’s use an example that is easy to understand, imagine you spend ages cooking your dinner on a stove in the living room when there is a perfectly good kitchen ready and waiting to be used – business owners are operating this way when it comes to the Cloud, they are managing but that is the best that can be said.
A lot of Cloud providers simply grabbed everything you use and tried to force it onto the Cloud, anything that got left behind in the process was too bad – this simply isn’t good enough, your IT provider should create a catered landscape for all the tools you need to make your workday run as smoothly and effectively as possible.
Most businesses now have lots of tools spread out around their organisation, most of which can do more than they are being used for. This is why it is essential that you use them to their full potential – doing so could allow you to be rid of some of them, making for smoother workflows and a better overall productivity from your team.
What should your IT look like?
Smooth business processes
It is essential that all your business processes are as smooth as they can be – and automated wherever possible (more on this in the next article). If there are unnecessary steps in your workflow then you are simply wasting time and money unnecessarily – you are decreasing efficiency and increasing the length of time it takes for your product/ service to reach your client.
Connectivity
In the modern world connectivity is essential, with different parts of the team spread out all over the place, it is essential that you are all still connected in order to achieve the best results possible. Your IT needs to be equipped to achieve this, provided there is an internet connection, you should have full access to your colleagues no matter where they are. Going further, they should have full and safe access to the sensitive documents that they use daily when in the office.
Access controls
With cyber security growing to be such a large issue for businesses across the globe, access controls are very important. You need full control of your IT landscape, who can access it and where they can access it. Access controls need to be set according to the users position in the organisation, meaning that a trainee should never have access to executive accounts and guest accounts are a no go!
